I usually visit historical sites and natural spaces. At Torres del Oeste de Catoira y Bajo Ulla you have it all together. There is not much Viking heritage in Spain, which makes Catoira especially attractive. My surprise was that the environment is a freshwater wetland, well preserved, adapted for the visit with walkways and bird observatory. In summer, which is when I've been, Wasserralle, Schilfrohrsänger and Seggenrohrsänger are plentiful. Many species can be heard but getting to see them takes time. If you want to see birds you must go at sunrise. During the day visitors abound, many in search of selfies with the towers and a lot of noise. For this it is important to avoid visiting the area during the Viking festival.

Espagnol: Restos históricos ligados a los vikingos y carrizales llenos de aves hacen que la visita merezca la pena. Destacar Wasserralle y Seggenrohrsänger. Personalmente suelo visitar sitios históricos y espacios naturales. Aquí lo tienes todo junto. No hay mucho patrimonio vikingo en España, lo cual hace que Catoira sea especialmente atractivo. Mi sorpresa fue que el entorno es un humedal de agua dulce, bien conservado, adaptado para la visita con pasarelas y observatorio de aves. En verano, que es cuando he estado, son abundantes el Wasserralle, Schilfrohrsänger y Seggenrohrsänger. Puede oírse muchas especies pero llegar a verlas requiere de tiempo. Si quieres ver aves debes ir al amanecer. Durante el día abundan los visitantes, muchos en busca de selfies con las torres y su persistente ruida espanta casi todas. Es importante evitar coincidir con la fiesta vikinga si se trata de observación de aves.

There is a big yearly festival in which they recreate the arrival of the Vikings. This causes a great impact on the area. The festival can be vibrant but you can forget to see birds in this period. The festival is every first Sunday in August.
