Beschreibung

The San Blas nature reserve is a hidden gem. From the road, the small ravine is completely out of sight. The area is private property belonging to the ecological resort Barceló that borders the nature reserve. The nature reserve is therefore only accessible to guests of Hotel Barceló Tenerife. If you are not a guest and want to visit it, you can try ask permission at the reception or mail if you can book an excursion to the area (tenerife@barcelo.com).

In 2005, the gorge in the reserve was still full of rubbish, but the team of the San Blas project, a collaboration between scientists and tourism experts, has cleaned up everything. Paths, walls and the dam were restored. This dam has become more than just a water container. Different birds that migrate from Africa to Europe make a break here and stay a few weeks or sometimes even months in San Blas. Birds you can see around the small reservoir are Teichhuhn, Alpenstrandläufer, Gebirgsstelze and Flußuferläufer. Other birds such as Felsenhuhn, Wiedehopf, Turmfalke, Kanarenpieper and Felsentaube inhabit this ravine. Apart from the birds the gorge is also worth a visit, because wind erosion has sculpted beautiful rocky forms.
