Beschreibung

One of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Pyrenees to see vultures are the Miradores de Revilla. As a birder you should not miss this place. It consists of 3 different viewpoints that are connected by a trail and they all overlook the beautiful gorge of Escuain. This well protected canyon is part of Ordesa National Park. Here you have a real good chance to see Bartgeier, Schmutzgeier, and Gänsegeier. But also Steinadler, Wanderfalke and other birds of prey. Furthermore from the viewing platforms you have a good view of the nests of Gänsegeier. You can find the nests by looking for big white poop spots on the rocks. A telescope comes in handy here, because the nests are still quit a distance away. So if you have a scope, take it with you! The 2 km long footpath from the parking place to the viewpoint is relaxed and well-signposted and runs through a leafy forest. So you walk in the shadow most of the time. The path runs along the left hand margin of the mouths of the Escuaín rivers, and is halfway up the cliff, which permits magnificent views of the rivers from the viewing platforms. The 2kms long path has only an upward climb of 100m. Best time to see the most vultures is when they depart in the morning. The afternoon most of the time sees less numerous vultures but is still good as the path is much more quiet in the afternoon.

You can find the parking at the start of the trail simply by clicking on the P on the map. Or you drive as follows: Drive the A-138 road (between the French border and the town of Aínsa) and turn off in Hospital de Tella (to the left if you come from Aínsa, to the right if you come from France) towards Tella and Miradores de Revilla. Further on take the next turning on the left towards Revilla. The 12 km long road is paved and in good condition. Sometimes it’s narrow and there are some hairpin bends, but if you drive calm it is no problem to drive it. The trail starts by the information panels located where the road bends sharply, 500m from the village of Revilla. The parking has only 3 parkings spots, if it's full you have to drive on and park in the village. The trail is not circular, so you have to walk the same path back.
