La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different Mönchsgeier nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are Schwarzmilan, Schlangenadler and Zwergadler.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing Schwarzstorch. On- and around the river Graureiher, Seidenreiher and Kormoran are present most of the time, as well as Purpurreiher sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Rothuhn, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
