Just 20 minutes from A Coruña the the Abegondo-Cecebre reservoir is a wide stretch of water with a surprising diversity of birds. It is protected area that is very good for watching ducks, herons, waders and grebes in autumn and winter. The shallowness of the reservoir (maximum of 15 m and average of 6 m) allows it to accommodate a large cross section of water birds. The reservoir attracts birds such as Fischadler, Schwarzmilan, Haubentaucher, Silberreiher, Waldwasserläufer, Gebirgsstelze and Iberienzilpzalp. Various ducks, gulls and Kormoran complete the list. The Piadela and Crendes bird observatories provide excellent opportunities for bird watching and photography. The surrounding mountains are also nice to explore for birds.

Easy to get there by car and walk. A suggested route is displayed on the map below. Start you route at the village of Crendes and make a stop at the bird observatory near the village (see the map). The route ends further southeast at the Piadela observatory.
