Beschreibung
Radensko Polje is a small karst plain south-east of Ljubljana. The landscape is a mosaic of wet meadows, fields, hedgerows and surrounding forest edges, creating a rich variety of habitats within a compact area.
The plain is home to Weißstorch, Graureiher, Purpurreiher, Silberreiher and Seidenreiher. Seasonal floods attract ducks such as Tafelente, Krickente, Pfeifente and Reiherente, as well as Flußuferläufer and Waldwasserläufer, while Eisvogel can be found along streams. Raptors include Mäusebussard , Turmfalke and Habicht, with Rotfußfalke passing during migration. Warblers and several woodpeckers add to the diversity.
Though not the easiest birding location - birds tend to be elusive and the terrain challenging - Radensko Polje rewards patience with excellent birdlife and scenic karst landscape.
