The Sapal de Corroios is a well preserved and birdrich wetland in the Tagus estuary, The area serves as a temporary stopover for many migratory birds but also holds many breeding birds. Despite being in the middle of a heavily built area, the Sapal de Corroios is a good place to observe waterbirds. The best observation site is located next to the Corroios Tidal Mill (Moinho de Maré de Corroios), especially during low tide (see the link below for tides table of the area). Among the birds you can encounter are Brandgans, Stelzenläufer, Rosaflamingo, Pfuhlschnepfe, Uferschnepfe, Rotschenkel, Grünschenkel, Seidenreiher, Sichler, Löffler, Wellenastrild and in winter Blaukehlchen. Also the exotic Haubenmaina is very common in the area.
