Two aspects are crucial for the high number of bird species in the wetland of Paul de Manique that are present here during the year. Whether they are residents, winterers, summer birds or those who use the place only to rest or to eat on migration. The location is special as it is a corridor between the river and the coast. This results in 140 bird species observed in recent years. Noteworthy residents and breeders are Purpurhuhn, Wasserralle, Zwergtaucher, Bläßhuhn and Teichhuhn, and also Rohrweihe, Schwarzmilan and Habicht visit the area.

Portugues: O Paul de Manique fica sito no concelho de Azambuja a cerca de 60 km de Lisboa. Tem uma área total de 18 hectares. Dois aspectos são determinantes para justificar o elevado número de espécies de aves que aqui estão presentes durante o ano, sejam residentes, invernates, estivais ou as que utilizam o local apenas para descansar ou alimentarem-se entre deslocações . O primeiro é a caracteristica da flora local, na sua essência ríplicola (de destacar o Junco, a Taboa e o Caniço), o segundo é a sua localização, pois o espaço fica num "corredor" entre o tejo e a costa, situação que se observa há já vários anos. Isto resulta em 140 espécies observadas nos últimos anos. A destacar como residentes e nidificantes, o Purpurhuhn , o Wasserralle , o Zwergtaucher , o Bläßhuhn e a Teichhuhn , e como nidificantes o Rohrweihe , o Schwarzmilan e o Habicht .
