Beschreibung
The area around Malta International Airport is at its best in spring, particularly with north-west winds. On good days there can be good numbers of harriers, mostly Rohrweihe but also Steppenweihe (early-mid spring) and Wiesenweihe (mid-late spring). The site can also be good for Rötelfalke and Rotfußfalke (late spring). In practice any migrating species can be seen from the area since it is open, such as flocks of herons, waders, Bienenfresser and Blauracke. Kurzzehenlerche arrive in spring and remain to breed in small numbers. Other passerines include hirundines, including Rötelschwalbe, and pipits, including Rotkehlpieper. In late autumn, the site is also one of the best places in Malta to see Goldregenpfeifer and Kiebitz. Several rarities have been seen here over the years.
