Beschreibung

Island Camp Baringo is located in the middle of Lake Baringo and has been a haven for bird enthusiasts since it was first establised in the early 1990s. Over the years, sightings of over 430 bird species have been recorded here, including African Fish-eagle, African Paradise-Flycatcher, Lesser Masked-Weaver, African Golden-Weaver, Greyish Eagle-Owl, Crimson-rumped Waxbill, White-browed Sparrow-Weaver, Hemprich's Hornbill, Great Cormorant, Shining Sunbird, Spotted Palm Thrush, Mourning Collared Dove and the magnificent Goliath Heron.

It all began with a small group of passionate bird watchers who set up camp to explore the diverse avian life. Key milestones include the establishment of the annual Baringo Bird Festival in 2005, which has grown to attract international visitors, and the discovery of the rare Shoebill in 2010, marking a significant achievement.

It is also interesting to see the local Njemps people fishing in their fig tree canoes. And you can also spot local wildlife such as crocodiles, mongoose and monitor lizards.

If you would like to stay overnight, Island Camp offers comforatble tents and nice food at a reasonable price.
