Beschreibung
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see Rosaflamingo, several species of ducks, Bläßhuhn, Kiebitz, different species of herons, Rohrweihe, Eisvogel, Beutelmeise and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as Grünschenkel and Stelzenläufer, as well as migratory ducks like Knäkente and Moorente. The site is one of the last places where Marmelente breeds in Italy. Re-introduced Purpurhuhn can also be seen.
