Beschreibung
Alpe di Fanes Grande, with its altitude of above 2000 meters, is an ideal habitat for many alpine species, like Ringdrossel, Tannenhäher, Alpendohle, Heckenbraunelle, Alpenbraunelle, Alpenbirkenzeisig, Bluthänfling, Fichtenkreuzschnabel, Bergpieper, Tannenmeise and many others, while Kolkrabe, Alpendohle, Wespenbussard, and Steinadler may be soaring between the surrounding peaks.
The area is part of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park and the IBA Dolomites.

Alpe di Fanes Grande can be reached from the southeast via the parking place Plan dall' Ega or from the north via the Pederü Mountain Hut. Click on the 'P' marking on the map for the first option.

The ascent from the parking place Plan dall' Ega' Ega to Col de Locia (the mountain pass and entrance to the Alpe di Fanes valley) is very steep (30-40% gradient) and requires very good fitness and sure-footedness, as well as cautious descent.
