Beschreibung

Tateh Mountain Pass unfolds as a dramatic transition zone between valleys, where narrow roads climb through layered ridgelines and open onto wide, windswept viewpoints. The terrain shifts constantly. From bare, craggy outcrops to pockets of oak woodland and gentle grassy slopes, creating a rich patchwork of habitats shaped by elevation and exposure.

The variety of elevations and habitats makes it excellent for birdwatching. In warmer months, you can find species such as Weißkehlsänger, Blaumerle, Rostbürzel-Steinschmätzer, Steinortolan and Schneesperling on rocky slopes, while woodlands host various tits and warblers. Raptors like Gänsegeier and Steinadler soar above the ridges.

What makes Tateh especially appealing is its sense of remoteness and authenticity. The combination of dramatic mountain scenery, traditional Kurdish villages, and relatively low visitor numbers creates a peaceful, immersive experience. Ideal for slow travel, birdwatching, and simply enjoying the changing moods of the mountains.

Zugang

As the name suggests, Tateh is a mountain pass about 60 kilometers from Marivan. Since it is a high mountainous area, there is a chance that during the cold months, especially in winter, the road will be blocked because of heavy snow. The only way to reach this place is by car, and it's good to spend a few hours there. The route that is shown on the map is about 40 km. There are some places with trees and shade to have a picnic and a relaxing time.
