Beschreibung
Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary combines a large reservoir with dry deciduous woodland and scrub. The nine lake islands attract waterbirds like Painted Stork, Asian Openbill, Common Pochard, Cormorant, Black-headed Ibis, and wintering Bar-headed Goose. The surrounding forest holds raptors, bulbuls, warblers, woodpeckers, and more. Notably, Pocharam has multiple documentations of the endangered Black-bellied Tern, a rare inland species. With rich habitats and year-round bird activity, it's one of Telangana's most rewarding birding sites.

Zugang
Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 115 km from Hyderabad and around 15 km from Medak town in Telangana. It is best accessed by road—either by private vehicle or TSRTC buses heading toward Medak or Nizamabad. From Medak, local transport or a short drive takes you to the sanctuary entrance. The area is spread around the Pocharam Reservoir, with walking trails through dry deciduous forest and around the lake. A nature trail, watchtower, and boating facilities offer good birdwatching opportunities. A half day visit is ideal, with early mornings offering the best sightings.
