Beschreibung
The old sanatorium is located next to the road between Sigri and Eresos through Meladia valley. The area consists of a dry gulley that runs from the mountains down to the sea, passing an old sanatorium and several houses along the way. The whole gulley is great for migrants, as they hide in the lush foliage of the area. Starting at the road, you can scan the area surrounding the houses near the beach for migrants, like flycatchers, warblers and chats. Don't forget to scan the sky for incoming raptors, like harriers and falcons. The sheltered garden of the old sanatorium is great for migrants too.
Once you're done down the road, you can walk a path heading inland. You pass a small grove behind the sanatorium, which is great for migrants. The bushes in the gulley can be packed too. The hills on both side of the valley are great for inland species, like Grauortolan and Felsenkleiber. Above the hilltops, small flocks of Rötelfalke and Eleonorenfalke can be seen hunting.
The further you go inland, the drier the landscape becomes. The fences and wires can be great for wheatears and shrikes, like Steinschmätzer and Rotkopfwürger. Also, the fields can be a good spot for wagtails and pipits, like Brachpieper, too.
Back in 2006, this area was thought to be the breeding habitat for Weißkehlsänger.
