Just west of Vatera, the Almiropotamos river is located and leads towards the sea in the south. The river's edge is covered in large and dense reedbeds, which are great for migrating herons and crakes. First, you can scan the river mouth near the sea for egrets, herons and waders. Out on the sea, you can see flocks of Mittelmeer-Sturmtaucher. The reedbeds already start near the sea, and species like Drosselrohrsänger can be heard here often.
Further down the river, the road crosses the river by a bridge. You can get a great overview over the river from off this bridge, and scan the area for herons and crakes, like Zwergdommel and Kleines Sumpfhuhn. The reedbeds are great for Drosselrohrsänger and flocks of Weidensperling.
The surrounding fields are fairly dry, and scattered trees and bushes can be great for migrating flycatchers, warblers and shrikes.
