Especially in winter the bay of Wohlenberger Wiek is worth visiting with a high possibility to spot Bergente. The birds come into the bay when it is windy to seek protection from the wind. Then you can see up to 1000 Bergente and, with luck and patience, Ohrentaucher and Schwarzhalstaucher. Sometimes you can also see divers, such as Prachttaucher. On the way there, you should also keep an eye on the fields, as there is a chance to spot Nebelkrähe, Singschwan and maybe even Zwergschwan. For photographers this is not a very good place, because the birds are mostly up to 700m out at the sea.
In summer birds like Sandregenpfeifer, Großer Brachvogel and Feldsperling can be observed. Eisente, Trauerente, Eiderente, Mittelsäger and Samtente can be spotted too. You can park close to Wohlenberger Wiek, just north of the village of Hohen Wieschendorf. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking it is about a 600 meter walk to get to the best viewpoint. It is also possible to get to the viewpoint by bike.
