Beschreibung
The Schenkenwald forest is particularly good for some forest birds, that are much harder to find elsewhere in the region. No. 1 is the Trauerschnäpper. The forest has a lot of nestboxes and therefore a remarkably high density of Trauerschnäpper. No. 2 is the Mittelspecht. They are always there and chances are high, especially in winter. With some luck Kleinspecht is also possible. No. 3 is the Pirol. Hard to see, but they are there. The best chances you have in the southern part of the forest.
Also mentionable are reliable Sumpfmeise and quite high numbers of Rotmilan and Weißstorch in the surrounding fields. With some luck, Hohltaube is possible.

Zugang
The Schenkenwald is located west of the village of Baindt and south of the village of Wolpertswende. Just leave the B30 at the exit Baindt. Best option to park is at the roundabout just after leaving the B30. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. Then just walk to the forest and keep an eye on the fields. Wachtel are possible.
Note that the southern part and northern part are divided by a railroad. The only option is to leave the forest on the northern side and use the railroad crossing. Then you have to walk all the way down to the southern part. The route shown on the map is about 7 km one way. A bike is recommended.
