Beschreibung

On lake Rubbenbruchsee many water bird species can be easily observed from the shore. In other, more sheltered places, shy birds find retreats. Around the lake there are small groups of trees and bushes, smaller and larger patches of forest, but also meadows and fields. As a result, quite a lot of different bird species can be observed in a comparatively small area. Since it is a local recreation area, the birds are not particularly shy. Among the birds you can encounter are Tafelente, Reiherente, Zwergtaucher, Haubentaucher, Höckerschwan, Eisvogel, Silberreiher, Graureiher, Weißstorch and Kernbeißer.

Zugang

From the north or south via the BAB 1, exit Osnabrück-Hafen. From the west or east via the BAB 30, exit Osnabrück-Hellern. You can park at the height of the playground on the northern part of the east bank on the side of the road (street name: »Barenteich«), also north of the lake on the street »An der Landwehr« (access to this car park is only possible from the west). If you want to have something to eat in the café before or afterwards, you can park your car there in the parking lot. A parking lot south-east of the lake (directly south of the Osnabrück riding club) is at the end of a residential road (»Am Heger Holz«) and is therefore not allowed to be used. If you want to walk through the »Heger Holz« forest beforehand, you can park at the end of the »Lieneschweg« street (in front of the former Parkhotel). Click on a P in the map to get directions to the parking of your choice.

The area is best explored on foot by circling the lake (3 km). The paths are well paved. It takes about an hour to walk around the lake – depending on how often you stop and observe, of course correspondingly longer.

Zusätzliche Informationen

As it is a popular local recreation area, it can get very busy at weekends, especially on Sundays. If you want it to be quieter, you should avoid these peak times as much as possible. The northern section of the lake can be navigated with pedal boats and rowing boats.
