Beschreibung
The 907-hectare Oberalsterniederung nature reserve stretches along the Upper Alster and Rönne rivers from Henstedt-Ulzburg via Wakendorf II to Nahe and Kayhude. It has been protected since 2004 and is the third largest nature reserve in Schleswig-Holstein. Highlight in the Oberalsterniederung nature reserve is the Schlappenmoor, a wet moor area where many orchids grow. The surrounding wet grasslands serve as a breeding ground for meadow birds such as Großer Brachvogel, Bekassine and Kiebitz. Also Wachtelkönig can be sometimes heard. In and around the Schlappenmoor you can encounter birds like Braunkehlchen, Goldammer , Schwarzkehlchen, Wachtel, Kuckuck, Kranich, Turmfalke, Feldlerche and Neuntöter.

Zugang
The Oberalsterniederung nature reserve is located north of Hamburg and south-east of Henstedt-Ulzburg. Several cycling and hiking trails await you in the nature reserve. Although there is no hiking trail directly along the Alster, there are several paths that cross the Alster. So you can take a look at the small river every now and then. On the map you see a circular walk of 8 km, that crosses the Schlappenmoor. You can park in Henstedt-Ulzburg. Click on the P in the map for directions.
