Beschreibung
The bird sanctuary 'Lahntal zwischen Marburg und Gießen' is an open river valley along the river Lahn. The area of 750 hectares is dominated by river forest, reed beds and unspoiled old tributaries of the river Lahn. The area is also used for agriculture and many open fields border the river. The river valley has been declared a landscape protection area and is part of the Natura 2000 network. It is one of the best Hessian areas for species such as Eisvogel, Blaukehlchen, Zwergdommel and Tüpfelsumpfhuhn. Other birds you can observe in the area are depending on the season Bruchwasserläufer, Goldregenpfeifer, Kampfläufer, Flußseeschwalbe, Trauerseeschwalbe, Fischadler, Heidelerche, Rohrweihe, Kornweihe, Wiesenweihe, Merlin, Mornellregenpfeifer, Silberreiher, Singschwan and Sumpfohreule.
