Beschreibung
Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include Höckerschwan and Bläßhuhn. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by Uferschwalbe, and Austernfischer breeds on the gravelly flat banks. Teichrohrsänger, Sumpfrohrsänger and Rohrammer live in the reed beds, while Nachtigall and Beutelmeise live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by Neuntöter, Dorngrasmücke and Klappergrasmücke, while Turmfalke, Pirol and Feldsperling breed in the trees. Rebhuhn, Braunkehlchen, Haubenlerche and Steinschmätzer live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially Tundrasaatgans, Bläßgans, Tafelente, Reiherente and Gänsesäger.
