Beschreibung

This area is part of the Vorpommersche Bodenlandschaft National Park. It sits at the end of a peninsula/spit running along the Baltic coast, east of the town of Zingst. The main birdwatching area is at the very eastern end of the peninsula, and is comprised of dunes, marshes, reedbeds and meadows.

This area offers a large variety of waders, sea- and shorebirds. Here you can observe Goldregenpfeifer, Kiebitz, Alpenstrandläufer, Großer Brachvogel, Seeadler, Krickente, Schnatterente, Pfeifente, Prachttaucher and many more. The fields and meadows also offer birds such as the Braunkehlchen and Schwarzkehlchen.

It is also one of the prime spots in the region to observe large numbers of Kranich that gather here for the night.

IMPORTANT: This is a protected area and guests are only allowed to visit between 08:00 and 15:00. After that, you need one of the limited national park tickets (7,50 € per day). This is of course very important when observing Kranich, which arrive and leave mostly outside these "open hours".

Notably, you also have a chance of observing other animals such as mammals like the Red fox, Sea otter, Red deer, European fallow deer, Roe deer and Wild boar.

Zugang

This area is best visited by bike and then on foot. Bikes can be ridden most of the way into the protected area, through the Sundliche Wiese/Meadows, but must be parked at one of the two bicycle parking areas (the eastern P spots on the map). The final area where the observation platforms, marshes and dunes are (see map), must be explored on foot.

It is about a 30min/2km walk form the bicycle parking spot to the furthest lookout platform/tower.

Cars must be parked at the carpark 'Wanderparkplatz Sundische Wiese' at the Schlösschen Sundische Wiese (the western P on the map)

The walk form the carpark to the furthest observation platfrom is 8km/approx 1hr 45min.
