Freiburg is a city worth a visit and the Rieselfeld is close enough to be compatible with a visit to the town. In the wet areas, you can find wetland-loving birds such as ducks, Bekassine, Bruchwasserläufer, Silberreiher, Wasserralle, Kiebitz and Graureiher. Other birds you can see in the surrounding area are Wendehals, Kuckuck, Raubwürger, Rotmilan, Schwarzmilan, Feldlerche, Neuntöter, Schwarzkehlchen and Dorngrasmücke. In the forest areas that are adjacent to the nature reserve breed Kleinspecht, Mittelspecht, Schwarzspecht, Pirol and Kleiber.
