Réserve ornithologique du Teich is a great place to watch birds. The salt marshes, lagoons and other shallow and brackish habitats attract many birds. No less then 323 species or subspecies of birds have been observed on the 110 hectares of the reserve. During the migration periods in spring and autumn thousands of birds visit the reserve. For some species, the reserve is a ‘must’ in terms of stopovers, with the same ringed individuals being spotted on a regular basis (for example Löffler and Uferschnepfe). Species diversity on the reserve is at its greatest during these two periods and it is not uncommon for more than 100 species to be noted in the course of a single visit. It’s also during the migration period that there’s the greatest likelihood of seeing rare birds and vagrants. But all year round the birding is rewarding on the 6 km circular walk with its many bird hides and viewpoints.

Marais, rosières, prairies et lagunes, voici ce qui vous attend pendant votre escapade bucolique au cœur de la Réserve Ornithologique. Notre rendez-vous avec la nature se déroulera à pied sur l’une des deux boucles proposées (2,5 km ou 6 km). On se cache dans les observatoires pour épier les oiseaux en liberté. Avant de débuter votre visite, pensez à vous munir d’une paire de jumelles à l’accueil. Saviez-vous que la Réserve accueille 260 espèces d’oiseaux différentes tout au long de l’année ? Et vous aurez la chance d’en admirer de près depuis les observatoires et points de vues surélevés du parcours. En plus d’être un lieu d’hivernage pour les migrateurs du nord et de l’est de l’Europe, c’est un site idéal pour la nidification. Héron cendré, Goéland marin, Cigogne blanche, Échasse blanche, Petit Gravelot et encore bien d’autres espèces cohabitent ensemble au même endroit.

Le Teich Ornithological reserve is 20 km from Arcachon and 52 km from Bordeaux. From Bordeaux via the N250 main road, or the A 66 motorway, following signs for Bayonne, then the A630 motorway, following signs for Arcachon. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking. 3 to 4 hours are necessary to “go around” the Teich Ornithological Reserve. Open every day except Christmas. Entrance is 9,4 € / person. Open at 10. Close at 18 -20 depending on the season.

Français: Accès depuis Bordeaux (50 Km) par la N. 250, ou par l’A 66 vers Bayonne, puis A 630 vers Arcachon. Le parcours de 6 km permet de faire le tour de la Réserve en 3-4 heures et le plus petit parcours est un raccourci idéal pour les enfants. Tarifs : 9,20€/adulte et 7€/enfant de 5 à 14 ans. Les chiens et les vélos ne sont pas autorisés.
