Pointe de Chassiron is located at the end of the island of Oléron, and probably the most interesting place for the observation of pelagic birds (= seawatch), like Basstölpel, Trottellumme or even Balearensturmtaucher.
The best time to observe seabirds, like any bird for that matter, is from dawn until noon. The only really interesting period for the seawatch is fall. You will then be able to observe a very large diversity of open sea birds, such as: Graugans, Ringelgans, Eiderente, Trauerente, Mittelsäger, Ohrentaucher, Haubentaucher, Skua, Trottellumme, Tordalk, Schwalbenmöwe, Lachmöwe, Zwergmöwe, Schwarzkopfmöwe, Sturmmöwe, Silbermöwe, Mittelmeermöwe, Heringsmöwe, Mantelmöwe, Zwergseeschwalbe, Brandseeschwalbe, Flußseeschwalbe, Sterntaucher, Eistaucher, Sturmschwalbe, Balearensturmtaucher, Basstölpel and finally Krähenscharbe.
During migration, it is also possible to observe a large number of passerines and Anatidae.
NB: a Einfarbstar has been nesting for several years under the tiles of the most advanced house with Star.
