Mont Caroux represents the eastern limit of the Espinouse mountains. There is a rich forestry area where you can have a chance to see Wendehals, Orpheusspötter, Berglaubsänger and Kleiber. There are also areas of heath which are home to Neuntöter, Schwarzmilan and Gänsegeier. And look out for Steinadler. More than 10 pairs breed in the area. Although visible all year round, this large raptor preferably performs acrobatic courtship displays in January and February. Other interesting birds you can see in the area are Schlangenadler, Steinrötel, Blaumerle, Zwergohreule, Samtkopf-Grasmücke Wintergoldhähnchen and Zippammer. In winter you have a chance to see Mauerläufer, Alpenbraunelle and Schneesperling in the area.
