Beschreibung

Rands Fjord is a former fjord that was converted into a freshwater lake in the 1800s. The streams of Bredstrup Å, Skærup Å and Spang Å all run through Rands Fjord. The fjord is surrounded by meadows, reed swamps, hills, forests, fields, grasslands and slopes. You can see Seeadler hunting. Sometimes the birds flock in thousands around Rands Fjord. Kiebitz and Star gather in late summer in the meadows around the lake, and during migration you can see large flocks of foraging ducks, geese and Singschwan. The area is also breeding ground for several special species such as Rohrweihe, Eisvogel and Beutelmeise. In the spring the Nachtigall sings. The bird life is best seen from the vantage point west of Vejlby Church or from the areas by kiselgurværket by Egum. Also see the extended birdlist below.

Zugang

The area is protected and equipped with different paths - most of them start from the small parking lots where you can also find information boards. There is a cycling route around the fjord. The route is 14,5 km and offers hilly terrain, forest and meadows. You can also choose to only visit the birdwatching tower

Directions for the tower: 1. There are several small paths and trails starting from the parking lots at Fagerlien or Fårbækvejen. The trails go over the meadow and through the forest and pass painter Anius' house. A red marking leads to the vantage point on the lake shore. 2. Follow the single carriageway (route 28) north towards Vejle. Exit at Egeskov and follow the road through Vejlby and continue for Egum. Approximately 1km after Vejlby make a right turn opposite the parking lot.
