Beschreibung
The Maribo Lakes consist of four lakes: Søndersø, Røgbølle Sø and Hejrede Sø southeast of Maribo town and the smaller Nørresø. The lakes are home to breeding Haubentaucher, Rothalstaucher and many species of ducks and geese, and the lakes have the country's largest population of Schnatterente. Kolbenente has been breeding at the lakes with a few pairs since 2003, the only place in Denmark.
Birds of prey also breed in the area. Seeadler have had chicks every year since 2003, and Rohrweihe breeds in the reedbeds.
