Korshage

NE Zealand  >  Denmark

Very good for spring migration (raptors and many other species). A nice place for watching sea birds in autumn.

Beschreibung

Open heathland by the coast. One of the best places to find relativly rare birds on Zealand. Korshage is best known for its spring migration, especially with winds from the east and south-east. However, in autumn there is a chance of seeing many species of seabirds which are driven into the Kattegat during the autumn storms, for example Eissturmvogel, shearwaters, Basstölpel and skuas.

A large number of different bird species fly out over Korshage on spring migration. Many raptors are seen, for example Wespenbussard, Rotmilan, Seeadler, Rohrweihe, Kornweihe, Habicht, Sperber, Mäusebussard, Raufußbussard, Fischadler, Merlin and Baumfalke. Kranich also pass overhead. Nearly 1000 have been seen on a single day. Some bird species migrate in enormous concentrations, for example pigeons: numbers of up to 15,000 Ringeltaube per day are not unusual. Some Hohltaube can be seen in the flocks. Crows and thrushes are also seen in large numbers, and Buchfink and Bergfink can form large flocks. Other migrating birds include Sumpfohreule and Ringdrossel. Wendehals can be spotted staging here under migration. Along the coast, geese and various dabbling ducks and diving ducks fly past. Also Neuntöter breed on the open areas at Korshage.
