Gundsømagle

Roskilde  >  Denmark

Fantastic place for birdwatching. A 300-metre walkway through the reeds and two nice bird towers give great opportunities to see birds. Lots of Bartmeise.

Beschreibung

The Bird Sanctuary at Gundsømagle Lake is a bird-rich lake area of 300 hectares with two covered bird towers connected by 800 m long trail, passing through forest and scrub, peat pits and meadows. The 300-metre walkway through the reeds is unique in Denmark and offers some unique opportunities to experience the bird and wildlife of the reed beds up close. It is built in a way that the birds are not disturbed. On several places are small benches. Gundsømagle is a very good place to see Bartmeise. But also Schilfrohrsänger, Rohrweihe, Sprosser and many other birds. See the extended birdlist below.

Zugang

Follow the A6 from Roskilde towards Ølstykke. Turn off towards Gundsømagle and follow the road to Østrup. In Østrup, a sign for the parking lot on St. Valbyvej shows the large, white Østrupgård. Click on a P in the map to get directions. There is no access to the reserve itself, but from the two parking spaces on the south bank you can directly access the walking trail through the area. From the trail there is a good view of the lake, the reed beds and the meadows and you will pass the two birdwatch towers.
