The national park consists of river gorges with steep rock walls. There are beautiful waterfalls from the plateau.
Parque Nacional Da Chapada dos Guimaraes is in the Pantanal Biosphere Reserve. It is a region of rugged terrain with dramatic cliffs and waterfalls. It is a landscape of red sandstone walls. The park is big (32,630 hectares) and lies in the municipalities of Cuiabá and Chapada dos Guimarães. More than 250 bird species have been recorded. Among the birds you can observe in the area are Greater Rhea, King Vulture, Red-legged Seriema, Bat Falcon, Red-and-green Macaw, Blue-winged Macaw, Smooth-billed Ani, Collared Crescentchest, Masked Gnatcatcher, Chalk-browed Mockingbird, Rufous Hornero and Burrowing Owl. Fauna include jaguar, pampas deer, howler monkey, tapir, giant anteater, giant armadillo and maned wolf.
Located in the municipalities of Cuiabá and Chapada dos Guimarães, its access is made by the Emanuel Pinheiro Highway – MT 251, which borders and cuts through the park in a large extension. From Cuiabá to the main entrance of the park is 50 kilometers. If the starting point is the city of Chapada dos Guimarães, the entrance is 11 kilometers away.
For those who do not have a car, it is possible to take a bus from the bus station from Cuiabá to Chapada dos Guimarães. There are buses practically every hour and thirty minutes, but it is worth confirming the departure times and whether the bus is direct (no stops along the way) or has a stop at Véu de Noiva (National Park).
There are several places with ample parking to visit the national park. Jeep safari is also possible with a park guide. The park can be visited all year round. The period from December to March has the highest incidence of rainfall. From July to October is dry season, with high temperatures and the possibility of forest fires.
The Chapada dos Guimarães National Park does not have accommodation. Visitors can stay in the city of Chapada dos Guimarães or in the city of Cuiabá.
