Beschreibung

The World Heritage listed Lamington National Park surrounding the guesthouse is home to a spectacular array of rainforest birds, including many that are highly sought after by birdwatchers. In addition the nearby eucalypt forest holds a number of interesting species that won’t venture into the rainforest habitat.

Many of the special birds of Lamington may be found in the gardens and rainforest within a few hundred metres of the guesthouse.

Regent Bowerbird, Satin Bowerbird and Green Catbird appear daily at feeding trays beside the dining room. Crimson Rosellas and King Parrots wait in nearby trees to ambush visitors if they suspect they are carrying food.

Lewin’s Honeyeaters, Eastern Spinebills and Superb Fairy-wrens are also common in the gardens within the guesthouse grounds. Australian Brush-turkeys are conspicuous in the picnic areas, and visitors may see them working on their incubation mounds in spring. Albert's Lyrebird is occasionally seen from the Booyong Walk as shown on the map.

Wildlife at Lamington National Park is abundant and some extremely rare, from the Spotted-tailed Quoll to the Lamington Spiny Crayfish.

Zusätzliche Informationen

O'Reilly's is a commercially run operation and has an 80 year history of providing hospitality. However there are no fees for visiting the gardens or adjacent walks. Walks that enter Lamington National Park are similarly free.

The walk shown is convenient and can be very 'birdie'. However numerous other options are available including some very long treks through the national park; these can be seen as the map is zoomed in or out. Note that the track between the 'cafe and gifts' and the mountain villas can be productive for Albert's Lyrebird.
