Beschreibung

The Brisbane River here is wide and slow moving as it nears its mouth with a narrow fringe of mangroves and mud flats adjoining the parks on the south bank and a small fringe of mud adjoining the golf course and rock wall on the northern bank. Downstream sit the Gateway motorway bridges and the industrial Port of Brisbane area. Just upstream on the south bank is a bulk shipping terminal and views extend up towards the CBD and ranges to the west of the city.

The primary attraction is the long jetty which gives good views across the river, and of the Gateway bridges from which a pair of Peregrine Falcon's often hunt Lorikeets crossing the river and the feral pigeons attracted to the nearby bulk grain shipping terminal. Terns (Greater Crested Tern, Australian Tern and Caspian Tern), cormorants, and pelicans are also attracted to prawn boats heading up and down the river as well as fishers on the jetty, especially in the cooler months. The mangroves often hold Mangrove Gerygone, Striated Heron and Sacred Kingfisher. Whimbrel are sometimes present on the mud flats. There is also a small wetland at the western end where Lewin's Rail have been seen in the past.
