Heathland with views across Poole Harbour, Corfe Castle and the Isle of Purbeck. A nature reserve managed by Dorset Wildlife Trust.
Upton Heath has a rich mosaic of dry, humid and wet heath, bog pools, ponds, grassland and woodland. As well as the expected heathland birds, the heath is home to all six native reptiles and sixteen species of dragonfly.
Car park at Springdale Road (from Wareham Road running through Corfe Mullen) or roadside parking at the end of Longmeadow Lane (just off the A35). Some parking at the Beacon Hill Urban Wildlife Centre (no pubic access to the Centre buildings). Click on a P in the map for directions.
The walk across the heath can be narrow and has uphill and downhill sections. The circular route indicated on the map is about 3 miles (5 km). There are no facilities. Upton Country Park (fee-paying car park) is a few miles away and this has a cafe and toilets.
The route is based on the walk written by Becky Atkinson-Mayes and published by Dorset Wildlife Trust. Click on the link below to access important information about the walk.
