Description

Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large Hjejle flocks in winter, with records of Amerikansk Hjejle and Sibirisk Hjejle. Passage Småspove and Krumnæbbet Ryle. Winter Sortgrå Ryle. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the Dværgternes that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.

Rødstrubet Lom and Islom, and occasionally Sortstrubet Lom, can be seen offshore in winter, and Hvidnæbbet Lom has been recorded.

Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Blåhals, Gulbug and Ørkenstenpikker. Snespurv regular in winter. Rødrygget Tornskade and Stor Tornskade have both occurred on passage.
