Description

Marsfjället Nature Reserve has a great diversity of birds and is a Natura 2000 site. The Marsfjället high mountain massif is dominated by the 1,587 meter high Marsfjällstoppen, which is the highest peak in southern Lapland. There's a birch and pine forest leading up to a tundra like terrain. In Marsfjället Nature Reserve you can hike in an unbroken wilderness area that stretches from high mountains to forest land. In the reserve there are several marked trails and forest trails that take you through the nature and up the mountain. The bird life is perhaps richest in the area's bogs. Here are species such as Trane, Småspove and Brushane. In the moorland between mountains and coniferous forest, birds such as Kærløber and Sortklire nest. Characteristic coniferous forest birds are Tjur and Lapmejse. Among the other birds you can encounter are Pomeransfugl, Hjejle and Blåhals.
