Shallow lake with lots of different birds also in the surrounding area, especially during spring and summer.
Fläcksjön is a lake with surrounding wetland mainly known for its rich bird life. Although most of the nature reserve is occupied by more or less open fields and wet grasslands, there are also different types of forest environments, mainly in the western part. In Fläcksjön you can observe lots of swans, geese and ducks. The Sangsvane often arrives early, already from the end of February and when they are at their peak, the cacophony from hundreds of swans is impressive. During May you have the opportunity to see some wading birds, such as Dobbeltbekkasin, Svaleklire, Brushane and Storspove.
Other birds that can be observed in the area are Sortterne, Fjordterne, Trane and Hvinand. On summer nights you can sometimes hear Rørdrum, Engsnarre and Plettet Rørvagtel within the reserve area. You have a chance to see Havørn in the area all year round. A good place to see Sangsvane is in the outlet of the Svartån river.
Lake Fläcksjön, is located about 17 kilometers southwest of Sala and is most easily reached by car. From Salbohed drive in the direction of Sätra Brunn. After just under 3 kilometers turn right towards Fläckebo. From Fläckebo, follow the road signs for Skultuna. When you have passed the bridge over Svartån, you have arrived at the southeasternmost part of the nature reserve. Click on the P in the map for directions.
Fläcksjön has no marked trails in the area, but you can look out over the lake and see the bird life from several places along adjacent roads and rest areas. In addition to bird watching, the area can be suitable for a canoe excursion along the Svartån river during the summer months.
