Ekeby wetland is Sweden's largest landscaped wetland with 40 hectares and 8 large ponds. More than 200 bird species have been recorded.
Ekeby wetland is is in fact part of a wastewater treatment plant. The average water depth is 1 meter and the deepest pond is 2 meters deep. The purpose of the wetland is to remove nutrients in the wastewater. There are eight ponds and two bird towers. The wetland has a rich bird life and over 200 different species have been observed. Ekeby wetland is easy accessible from Eskilstuna. Among the birds you can see are Knopsvane, Knarand, Toppet Lappedykker, Lille Lappedykker, Fjordterne and many ducks, waders and gulls. It is possible to get to the wetland by bike, or on foot, by following the river path from the center of Eskilstuna. Marked-out walks for both longer and shorter walks are available, with rest areas.
