National park located on the edge of the Brokopondo reservoir. Accessible by road, several forest trails are then accessible on foot.
Brownsberg Nature Park is an elevated plateau that is known for its rich biodiversity and breathtaking views. The plateau and the slopes are covered with pristine rainforest, which is in some places very low and dense and in others high and open. From the town of Brownsweg, there are several forest trails that allow you to discover the Surinamese forest and the associated undergrowth species. Depending on the trails you take, you can have access to viewpoints over the lake and viewpoints over waterfalls. The trails offer excellent opportunities to spot birds such as the Channel-billed Toucan, Pompadour Cotinga, Black-tailed Trogon, Guianan Red-Cotinga, Black Curassow and Grey-winged Trumpeter.
Brownsberg Nature Park is about 100 km south of the capital Parmaribo, that can be reached in 2 hours driving. To get there you have to take the road southwest of Brownsweg, the condition of the road is variable and more or less difficult. The paths are only passable on foot.
