Description
Mirador de la Cumbrecita is located on the southern edge of the Caldera de Taburiente in the National Park in the center of La Palma. The area gives you the oppurtinuty to enjoy some of the best viewing points on the island. It's also a great place to observe birds in the fairly sparse (pine) forested mountain hills.
One of the first species you'll see or hear are Ravn. They can be seen soaring over the mountainous hills and their calls are being echolocated against the steep rockwalls. Also Alpekrage can be seen in small flocks flying over the hills. The pine forested hills give a great habitat for species like Bogfinke, Kanarisk Gransanger, Fuglekonge and Kanariefugl. Both endemic species of laurel pigeon, Laurbærdue and Hvidhalet Laurbærdue, can be seen here too, but its not the best location on the island due to its sparse forested areas.
The rocky hills give also a great oppurtunity to see and hear Berberhøne, but its a difficult species to find. These parts are also good for Kanarisk Piber.
