Important wetland that is rich in birds. One of the curiosities of Mar de Ontígola is that its water is salty due to the nature of the soil that surrounds it.
Mar de Ontígola is an artificial lagoon that long ago was a place of recreation for Spanish royalty. In 1994 it was declared a nature reserve. It has a very important and varied water bird population and many endangered butterflies. There is a small parking lot where you can park and from there begins a walk of about 600 meters that surrounds the wetland of Ontígola and ends at an elevated observatory that allows you to observe the birds. Among the birds you can see here are Rørhøg, Silkehejre, Krikand, Sultanhøne, Toppet Lappedykker, Fiskehejre, Vandrikse, Rørhøne, Rødhovedet And and Skeand.

You can get there by car on the road that goes from Aranjuez to Ontigola and leave the car in a small parking lot, from there the walk that surrounds the water begins and leads to the observatory. The end of the walk for about 50 meters runs parallel to the train track along a narrow path where there is usually undergrowth but if you walk carefully it's okay. A little further on is the tower-observatory. It can also be reached on foot or by bicycle from Aranjuez.

Tambien se puede llegar andando o en bicicleta desde Aranjuez.
There is water throughout the year but the best time is autumn-winter, in summer it is too hot. Next to it is the Regajal Reserve, known internationally for having several species of butterflies of special interest.
