Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different Munkegrib nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are Sort Glente, Slangeørn and Dværgørn.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing Sort Stork. On- and around the river Fiskehejre, Silkehejre and Skarv are present most of the time, as well as Purpurhejre sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Rødhøne, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

Access
La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
