Description
Área recreativa de La Caldera is a picnic area located near the village of La Orotava. It is part of Parque Natural Corona Forestal, the largest protected area in the Canary Islands. La Caldera is the starting point for numerous trails that are in its surroundings. You can make a very nice circular walk through the surrounding forest. But before you do, check out the arena-like playground surrounded with picnic tables and wooded slopes. The trees and food left behind at the pinic tables under the trees attract many birds. This is a very good spot to observe Kanarisk Fuglekonge. Also Bogfinke, Kanarisk Gransanger, Kanariefugl and Kanarisk Blåmejse. If you make a forest walk in the area you have a chance to encounter Laurbærdue, Hvidhalet Laurbærdue and Blå Bogfinke.

Access
La Caldera is located 10 km south of La Orotava on an altitude od 1000 m. It has a large playground, public toilets, grills, tables and a parking. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 6 km and starts from the parking. For the best views go counter clockwise. Put on good walking shoes.
