Description
You can drive right past the Embalse de Guargacho and miss it, because this reservoir is so inconspicuous. But it is an easy stop as the dam and reservoir are right next to the road where also a big parking is. And more important, the reservoir attracts birds like Almindelig Ryle, Bjergvipstjert, Mudderklire and Lille Præstekrave. And rare birds for Tenerife like Rødvinget Braksvale, Krumnæbbet Ryle, Brushane and Tinksmed have been observed here recently. In dry years the water level can be very low and in the summer the reservoir can dry out completely. Even when the reservoir is almost dry, birds still are attracted to the place. With extreme low water levels check out the puddles near the car tires at the base of the dam.

Access
The Embalse de Guargacho is located just south of the village of Guargacho. Along the road, in front of the reservoir is a large parking. Click on the P in the map for directions. Just a 50 m walk brings you to the edge of the reservoir. You can see the reservoir from a little distance from above and a spotting scope can be handy, although the birds are close enough to be able to identify them with binoculars.
