The area of Benimussa, known to locals as the Hidden Valley, is a popular hiking area, but also good for pleasant birding and especially good in spring.
Benimussa is one of the greenest valleys on Ibiza. This big agricultural valley is surrounded by mountains. The landscape is mainly rural and arable land. On the higher terraces are all kinds of fruit trees, especially almond and olive trees. Some pieces have now been taken back by the forest. So the area is a mix of agricultural land, forest and Mediterranean bushland and this attracts many birds. A perfect area to combine a pleasant walk with birding. Especially in spring Benimussa is beautiful and full of birds. Among the birds you can see are Hærfugl, Biæder, Sorthovedet Sanger, Gærdeværling, Dværgørn, Triel, Gøg, Tårnfalk, Rødhøne, Rødhovedet Tornskade, Stenspurv, Turteldue, Theklalærke, Skovhornugle, Dværghornugle, Vestlig Sortstrubet Bynkefugl and Gulirisk.
A big area with many trails to follow. You can also follow the main road through the area and make different stops. The road hasn't got a lot of traffic, but of course the secondary roads and paths are more relaxed. On the map we have marked an unpaved road of 1 km that is good for birding and a pleasant walk. It is easy to extend your walk on the many paths and rural roads. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the beginning of the path where there is also space enough to park the car.
The valley is at its best in the spring when all the trees are in bloom and thousands of birds are singing and very visible. In autumn you can sometimes see big groups of songbirds following the valley on migration.
