A nice birding area between Schiedam and Delft with large fields of reed, small bushy areas as well as open grasslands. Nice habitat for a variety of birds!
The different habitats of Vockestaert attract a variety of birds. The large fields of reed attract all kinds of reed loving birds like Savisanger , Rørspurv , Sivsanger , Cettisanger , but in the area you can also find Bynkefugl , Vestlig Sortstrubet Bynkefugl , Stenpikker , Blåhals , Grønirisk , Stillits , Bogfinke , Løvsanger and Gransanger.
There are also some small and larger waters in the area which attract all kinds of waterbirds. The combination with dense reed fields makes it prime habitat for shy and rare inhabitants like Dværghejre and Rørdrum which have been spotted here.
Then there are also meadows which in the spring harbor many meadowbirds such as Vibe , different types of Sandpipers, Stor Kobbersneppe , Rødben , Strandskade and Sanglærke. Recently the rare Dværgsnegås was spotted here as well.
Of course there will be many more birds not named here, but that is something to find out for yourself! Summarized, it is a good birding area which might surprise you in a positive way!
The area is very accessible and can be reached by car, bike and by foot. If you come by car there is a small parking lot closeby in the area (see the P on the map), otherwise you might want to park somewhere in the residential area that is adjacent.
