Description
Höfði Woodland Park is located on the eastern side of Lake Mývatn and consists of a beautiful forested area adjacent to the lake. Several pathways lead through a diverse habitat with scattered trees, strange rock formations and great views over the lake. The park is a good spot for local breeding birds, such as Gråsisken, Vindrossel and Gærdesmutte. During migration, anything can show up here! Especially finches, like Bogfinke, Kvækerfinke and Dompap have been seen in the past.
The rocky parts are particular good for Fjeldrype. The area is also used as hunting ground by Jagtfalk.
The views over the lake provide observations of many species of waterbird, like Islandsk Hvinand, Bjergand, Odinshane, Toppet Skallesluger and Havlit.
