A coastal lagoon near Accra. The site is a protected Ramsar site. Getting good access requires boots or wet feet.
Sakumono Lagoon covers 1,340 hectares and was designated as a Ramsar wetland site of international importance. The site contains open water, marsh, reedbeds and sedges. Bishops, cisticolas and reed warblers are common and abundant. Interesting waders are possible on migration and many egrets, herons and Little Bittern.
Sakumono Lagoon is located in Sakumono near Tema in the Greater Accra Region. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates. This area is for wading - you can try keeping dry feet but the interesting birds will always be just across a creek. Best is to take a taxi and let them wait for you on the road.
