Description
The NABU Weinberg nature reserve is located just outside the town of Wetzlar. It is a species-rich cultural landscape, formerly diversely used from agriculture to military use. Spread over 167 hectares the vast cultivated landscape is grazed by sheep and is home to many rare animals and plants of the open dry fields. In spring, you can hear the songs of Sanglærke, Rødstjert and see Rødrygget Tornskade and Vendehals. Other than the name "Weinberg", directly translated "Wine hill" might suggest, it is actually not a vineyard, but kept its name from from the historical failed attempt to plant grape vines. It is a nature reserve, so please do not leave the path and your dog always has to be kept short on foot!
